Coming up in Leeds this May

Itchy are feeling the pinch this month.

And no, we're not just referring to the unseasonal fingers of Jack Frost that are still gripping our ear like a teacher threatening a naughty schoolboy.

There are moths in our wallet, woodworm in our bank account, and our piggy bank's belly is empty. With not one, but two, imminent bank holidays to look forward to, we are hurriedly hunting out the cheapest ways to stay entertained – and warm – this May.

On Saturday 3rd May, the bank holiday weekend will be kicking off with a bang with Live at Leeds. Eight Leeds venues will be staging a whole day of live music from bands of both local and international renown, with wristbands costing just £10. The scheduling is endearingly potty – get up early to catch precocious Aussie poppers Operator Please at 1pm, in the unlikely surrounds of the Wardrobe.

If that's not enough of a bargain for you, you might be interested to learn that Jake's are launching a free weekly club night this month. Currently badged as 'Thursday at Jake's' – Itchy are hoping they'll go back to the drawing board before the first night kicks off on Thursday 22nd May – the event will be launched by the Sunshine Underground.

Hopefully their ultraviolet rays will filter to the darkest corners of Jake's basement bar and herald the start of summer. Future DJ sets by Bloc Party and Foals are also in the pipeline.

Then there are the events that are so peculiar, they have to be free...

How about the Butter Making Demonstration at Temple Newsam, Monday 5th May? No?

OK, if all else fails, we have the Free City Bus Rodeo to fall back on. This game involves trying to stay on the bus for as long as possible without someone throwing you off. Itchy is currently trouncing our friends with an impressive eleven circuits and plans to grip that title with both spurs. Best of all, all these hours of entertainment won't cost us a buck. Yee-haaaaaw!

I would like to submit the following event to your site. Based on www.weararemyjeans.com: "From 2nd - 9th May 2008 we'll be giving you the opportunity to find our jeans. Throughout the course of the week we'll be taking a celebrity's pair of jeans to various Yorkshire hotspots and testing your regional knowledge by seeing if you know where they are! Each day will bring a new location and a new set of clues that will be featured here on our website. If you guess correctly where the jeans are, you'll be entered in to the final draw where you'll have a chance to win a pair of celebrity jeans that have been featured throughout the week-long campaign. The event won't cost you a penny to enter but we hope you'll check out the charity we're supporting "Jeans for Genes" and have a look at some of the great work they do."
