Tell me why I don't like Sundays

It's the light that first wakes you. Then something drags you out from underneath your warm duvet, cold fingers clutching at your ruined flesh.

It's the fear.

You start to try and talk yourself round: 'Maybe I can still go back to sleep. Don't think about what that dread is. Don't think. It must have something to do with last night. Don't think. What did I do last night? Don't think.'

Cushioned between the banging headache from the night before and the banging headache of the week to come, Sundays can be a horrorshow of a day. Maybe the Boomtown Rats should have asked, 'Tell me why I don't like Sundays.'

But Sundays don't have to be like that. Put that hangover off until Monday. Surely it's better to waste your boss's time with your self-pitying whining and head-in-hands agony, rather than your own?

Places to go when you've had Saturday night in (and feel like a bit of a party):

The Elbow Rooms (0113 245 7011)
Drinking on a Sunday has an illicit thrill: I won't let the man tell me what I should be doing with my own time. I'll tuck into some half-price cocktails down at The Elbow Rooms, and let the DJs intoxicate my ears so I can't hear properly at work, college or at my court date on Monday.

Places to go when you've had Saturday night out (and feel pestilent):

Sunday Joint @ Hi-Fi (0113 242 7353)
See those fellow sufferers stumbling around the streets? Chances are they'll be heading down to Sunday Joint at the Hi-Fi Club to have their ears massaged back into life by subtle jazz and salsa.

Places to go if you're skint:

Farmers' Market (Kirkgate Market)
Brassic after a night on the beer, and empty stomached? Take a trip down to the Farmers' Market and eat as many free samples as you can hold.

Places to go if you won big in the casino on Saturday:

Waterfall Spa (0845 634 1399)
If you're flush, drift downstream to the Waterfall Spa for a pamper session. Not so flush? Sit in a hot bath and flush the toilet a few times for a calming waterfall effect.

Places to go if you're entertaining someone from out of town.

Tropical World (0113 214 5715)
When it's damp and miserable outside and you need some colour in your life, get down here and pretend you're David Attenborough.

Places to go for an old school Sunday (really good roast and a pint of bitter).

Roundhay Fox (0113 246 3090)
Sometimes all that will cure you is the warmth and comfort of a Sunday roast, and the Roundhay Fox can deliver... Just what the doctor ordered.
