After seven years as a Call Lane stalwart, Norman got a brand new look in June 2004. Out went the red leather and Channel 4 racing artwork, and in came the polished slate and Italian crystal chandeliers. Those with S.A.D will appreciate the multicoloured lighting system, which boasts 15 - count 'em - million different colour combos. Which is just as well, seeing as Leeds is usually the same fuggy shade of grey. Keeping the bright colours going, you can plonk your designer jeans down on an orange polyethylene Tokyo Pop stool, from Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka, as you attack the cocktail menu with renewed energy. The one thing that hasn't changed though is the food –you can still get Norman's Singapore noodles, as well as other Oriental-inspired dishes like shichimi beef, salt and pepper squid, teriyaki chicken salad, and dim sum. And cheapskates can still enjoy the Monday night meal deal - £5 for a main course and a bottle of beer. Bargain.
