Roundhay Park
Dress up as a dandy and prance about the Victorian bandstand, gen up on Snake-Necked Turtles and Papilio-no-idea in Tropical World, stroll with the geese in Canal Gardens or take tea in the pavilion. In winter, wrap up warm and watch the fireworks or go sledging on the death trap that is Hill 60 (the steep one that runs down into the cricket pitch); in summer, take a generous bag of fun, a crate of your finest lager and lay under the baking Leeds sun beside the lake. In fact, just treat the whole park like a massive den. But watch out for Jimmy Savile out on his morning jog in a shellsuit and wrap-around sunnies. He lives round here.
