HYDE PARK PICTURE HOUSE
Leeds' last independent cinema, the Hyde Park Picture House opened in Edwardian times and retains all of its original character... and smell. If you close your nose there's a lot of beauty to be found within, with velvet seating, original gas lighting features, an ornate carved balcony and, of course, the finest in independent and world cinema, which isn't a bad thing. There are also screenings of cult and quirky classics, often accompanied by enthusiastic fancy dress. How often to you get to sit in a multiplex next to a man in a basque and thigh-high boots?
